Client Challenge

A leading agri-trading business was seeking to appoint a Grain Marketing Manager to lead its grain trading function, manage a team of four, and oversee a significant grain trading portfolio.

Experienced grain traders with leadership capability are notoriously difficult to recruit. The strongest professionals are typically well established, manage valuable trading books and long-standing client relationships, and have little incentive to move.

The challenge was further compounded by the client’s head office being based in a smaller regional town rather than a major commercial centre, making it more difficult to attract experienced talent. The client therefore required a targeted national search to identify and engage passive candidates.

Ntice Approach

The client partnered with Ntice through our Explore Solution, a fixed-cost search model designed for specialist appointments.

Recognising the limited pool of experienced grain marketing professionals in South Africa, Ntice began the assignment by mapping the market to identify competing organisations employing professionals with the required grain trading expertise and leadership capability.

Passive candidates performing comparable roles were then proactively approached, assessed and shortlisted before being presented to the client.

Result

The assignment was successfully completed within 3 months.

Ntice presented four highly skilled Grain Marketing Managers to the client. Two candidates progressed to interview, resulting in the successful appointment of an experienced Grain Marketing Manager.

The successful candidate was secured from a direct competitor and was not actively seeking a new opportunity when first approached by Ntice.

By choosing Ntice’s Explore Solution, the client saved R239,630 by paying an agreed fixed recruitment fee rather than a traditional percentage-based fee linked to the successful candidate’s annual salary.
